She Broke My Heart ?
Yesterday I met a sweet little old lady,
Not too old, probably in her late 50’s early 60’s. She was pushing her cart down the street.
We said, “hi,” made some small talk.
And it broke my heart.
She asked me how long I’d been living here and I told her I just moved in, that it was mine and my wife’s first house.
She was super excited for me even though she obviously was living on the street.
Had I not been so convicted about the amount of love she was showing me I might have had the decency to ask her more about herself.
We knew that with our budget we would be moving into a neighborhood with a lot of need.
What I didn’t know was how much seeing that need would cause me to want to find a solution.
Although I have nothing monetarily to give right now, I do have time and an ear to hear and love on people like that sweet lady.
Right now, we are praying for ways to reach out and just love on the community.
We have a few ideas, they are small but they are big in love.
We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? – 1 John 3:16-17
What are the needs in your community?
God made sure the needs hit me right in the face; be better than me, stop and look around to see what your community needs.
That’s what being a child of God is all about.
Right now, because it’s so hot, we are planning on bringing a cooler full of ice water and ice-cream to give a little relief and show some love.
Then if anyone wants to talk or prayed for we will be there for them.
It’s simple I know but that’s what we can afford right now.
