What They Didn’t Tell You About Holy Spirit Baptism
When I was first baptised in Holy Spirit I was a mess.
Ok so I’m still a mess in some ways but back then I was all mess.
I’d be partying Thursday, Friday and Saturday then go to church on Sunday.
After I was baptised in Holy Spirit I wish I could tell you I changed for the better…
I did not.
Soon after, I quit going to church entirely, got into heavier drugs and began selling them to pay for my addiction.
Why am I sharing this with you?
Because being baptised in Holy Spirit is a dangerous thing.
Holy Spirit won’t let you get away with the stuff you used to…
Once you are immersed in Him you are fundamentally changed.
It’s more than the manifestation of speaking in tongues or prophesying.
You develop a deep need in your soul for intimacy with God and to do His will.
By not doing His will or maintaining intimacy with Him I sought out other ways to fill that void.
Nothing could.
Nobody warned me that once I was baptized in Holy Spirit that I had responsibilities.
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth. – Acts 1:8 (emphasis mine)
I was taught that Holy Spirit gave you the power for ministry. I didn’t know He also made it a mandate.
When you are baptized in Holy Spirit power you are given the same mandate the Apostles were.
It’s not an option.
You either become a witness for Messiah or you find yourself with a longing that nothing else can fill.
When you aren’t living out the Messiah’s mandate you find yourself trying to fill that emptiness in all sorts of different ways:
For me it was partying.
If you are more committed to your church life than I was it may come out as seeking out new “revelation” or looking for that next big teaching.
This is why people are so into weird stuff like biblical numerology or “the bible code” or spending their lives trying to figure out who the antichrist is…
There is a longing in their spirit that can only be satisfied by being on mission.
I’m sorry if nobody warned you beforehand but once you are baptized in Holy Spirit the only thing you are good for is spreading the Gospel.
It’s a lot scarier than watching Bible guru’s on YouTube but it’s infinitely more fulfilling.
Your mission starts in your backyard.
Get to it and see how quickly all the little things that used to seem so important fall away.
