A Fiery Challenge On A Hot Summer Day
Today was another hot day working out in the sun…
Perhaps that’s why I’m a little fired up right now.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the anointing lately and I can’t help but think about how powerless so much of the church is these days. You know in the book of Acts the Apostles weren’t allowed to begin their ministry until they were endued with power from on high. (Luke 24:49)
I know in the Christian world it’s trendy to talk about “the finished work of the cross.”
I even come out of that camp but here’s the thing… when Yeshua said “it is finished” on the cross He didn’t mean that we now have no more responsibility when it comes to our spiritual walk.
All He meant was that the price had been paid for our sins.
His work was finished not ours.
You are still responsible for growing your gifts and properly stewarding your talents (Matthew 25:14–30).
We all have to give an account for what we’ve done here both good and bad. Yes, what Christ did on the cross will get you into heaven but it won’t do the work you were created to do. You have to do that on your own.
Paul put it this way:
Each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. – 1 Cor. 3:13-15
That’s how I felt up on the roof today in the 100-degree sun and let me tell you; it’s not fun.
We all need to grow in this area… I don’t know anyone who’s shadow is healing the sick (Acts 15:5).
That means we all still need work.
It’s time we stop settling for a powerless Christianity having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof (2 Tim 3:5) and instead we see the need before us, seek God’s help and His power and finally do something about it.
If we don’t it will be to our eternal shame that we’ve missed the very purpose God has placed us on this earth.
Where’s the need you see? What do you have burning inside your heart? What were you created to do?
It’s time to get alone with God and pursue Him like the Apostles did in the upper room until you too are endued with power from on high.
Only after that will we truly be ready to change the world.
