We Need You
Yesterday I was super productive in the morning but by the time the afternoon rolled around I was done. I’d like to blame it on my lack of sleep the night before and Vanessa’s new work schedule throwing me off but I think it had more to do with a complete lack of motivation.
How can you be productive when there is so much awesome happening on facebook (sarcasm).
Honesty time, I was born the first year people classified as the millennial generation. That’s right, I’m the one that started it all. I’m like the proto-millennial or the archetypal millennial.
Millenial is a moniker I wear with pride. Primarily, I believe it’s because we millennials have a desire and a belief that we can change the world. It’s even our responsibility to do so.
We see the broken systems, the failed systems, the outdated systems and decide to either abandon them or fix them.
Abandoning is easy but if you want to fix a system, and I do, then you have to prepare yourself for a long hard road.
There are 2 ways to fix a broken system:
- You fix it from the inside or
- You build something better so that people leave the old for the new.
The primary system I see that needs to be fixed is the church. It’s time to break away from the preacher model and switch back to the mentor/discipleship model.
It’s time to put my money where my mouth is and begin spending time with those who want to grow and I need to begin actively seeking out mentees.
As the proto-millennial, it’s time to make an impact. it’s time to change the world. It’s time to fix the broken systems.
This is where you come in. As a member of my list, I know you are a step above most when it comes to knowing and seeking God. I know you have a lot to teach others and I know you have a heart to change the world.
Look around and see the people who need what you have. Take them out to coffee, take them out to dinner. Give them your most precious resource, your time. Share truth with them and share your life with them.
Actively show them what being a disciple of Yeshua looks like.
Pray with them, minister with them, do life with them.
If you want to reach my generation, church is not the way. Discipleship is the way.
Church is politics, church is business, church is corruption, church is being abandoned by millennials faster than any generation before.
Millennials don’t want church. Millennials want connection. Millennials want you.
Mentors are needed.
You are needed.
