Reality Check
One of my favorite songs right now is a country song called “Buy me a boat.” It’s all about how he knows everyone says money is bad but he wants it anyhow because it can buy him the stuff he wants to be happy.
(If you aren’t familiar with it, you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQPjKSVe1tQ)
He even does the classic misquote of “money is the root of all evil” instead of what the Scriptures actually say “the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil”
Here’s the truth of the matter; everything has its price. Usually, it’s time or money.
Here’s where we can ruffle some feathers: Salvation is free, discipleship will cost you everything. (Luke 14:25-33)
If your relationship with the Lord has cost you nothing then it’s safe to say you have a very shallow relationship.
I’m not saying this to bum you out, it’s meant to be a reality check. How much time do you honestly commit to spiritual growth? I find a lot of people have a lot to say about theology but they’ve never so much as finished the bible. How can you know what the Lord wants if you don’t know what He has already said?
I know that’s not the issue with you or anyone else on my list. My list is full of people who are actively seeking to grow in their spiritual walk.
You know that everything it has cost you will be paid back 100x both in the present age and in the age to come. (Mark 10:29-30)
God will be in debt to no man! That is why He pays back anything we “sacrifice” 100 times over.
What have you given up for the kingdom? Have you received your reward? If you have not then be on the look out for it because it is coming.
If you feel like you haven’t sacrificed much or your relationship with God hasn’t cost you anything than take some time and ask God what He desires of you. Odds are, you already know what He wants you to do and you’ve been running from it.
Maybe it’s something as simple as devoting yourself to a time of prayer each day. Maybe God has been asking you to sell your home and use the money to become a missionary somewhere…
You will know you are a true disciple of Yeshua when everything you have and everything you are is devoted to Him.
Even your boat ?
