What’s Holding You Back?
This was a bit of an intense weekend for me so I’ve been going through the word like woah today to recharge and reconnect with Holy Spirit.
As I was reading this morning I came across this verse and I had to stop:
You are not restrained by us, but you are restrained in your own affections.
-2 Corinthians 6:12
I don’t know about you but I hate being told what I can and cannot do. I want what I want and that’s all that matters… or is it?
The truth is, God has a very different standard of what He expects from us than what we expect from ourselves.
The Corinthians wanted Holy Spirit power without holiness.
They let their own lusts and desires rule them and thought that God would look the other way…
Paul makes it clear here that they were their own worst enemy. Their inability to turn to God’s commands and submit themselves to His authority was what was holding them back.
Were they forgiven? Yes.
Were they saved? Absolutely.
Were they walking in the fullness of what God had for them? Not by any stretch of the imagination.
They had manifestations of power, were speaking in tongues and moving in the prophetic but they were held back from their full potential because of their sin.
The scary part is, they didn’t even realize how much their sin was holding them back…
Sin is the dirt in your engine air filter… will it cause your engine to break down? Probably not, but it will make everything you are trying to do much more difficult and you will never perform to your peak potential.
It’s not a matter of whether or not sin will hold you back… it’s a matter of how much are you letting sin hold you back?
It’s time to make that change and lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
You know what Holy Spirit has been asking you to change.
You know what needs to be done.
It’s time to reach your full potential.
