Where We Lack
Good Monday Holy Ones,
I’m not gonna lie, last week was rough for me.
I couldn’t tell you exactly what was going on but I get the feeling it was the volcano explosion of emotion that comes from burying your feelings for years.
I’ve been dealing with some issues and there have been a few exciting doors that have opened up.
I’ll share more about that in the weeks to come but for now, know that I’m just excited about the upcoming changes.
On a sad note, my JW coworker has all but told me he will never be able to make it to a Bible study with me… I don’t know what happened but I’m pretty sure someone in the JW leadership told him he’s not allowed to meet with non-JW’s for Bible study.
Vanessa and I are going to continue to do the Bible studies even if it’s just us spending time together in the scriptures. It makes for a strong and happy marriage.
It has me thinking about community. As a JW, his whole life revolves around the watchtower and being a Jehovah’s Witness.
If I’m honest, that is one area where Christians as a whole fail miserably. We gather around minor doctrinal issues and we separate over petty things like the style of worship at our services.
This lack of genuine community (as opposed to the cultic, manipulation and isolation we find in the JW community) is the sad result of our church structure.
We are supposed to have 5 types of leaders in our congregations: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Preachers, and Teachers.
Unfortunately, we’ve chopped it down to 1, maybe 2 that we see in most congregations and we definitely aren’t raising people up to grow in their leadership roles (unless they are a pastor or teacher).
If we want to change the world we have to change our structure first.
Here we are 500 years after the Protestant Reformation… I think the church is ready for another.
It’s time to bring back Biblical leadership.
Stay tuned for more…
